Dr. Ginko Ogino achieved a major victory in national history and gender parity in the land of the rising sun in 1880, when she became the very first Japanese woman to attend medical school in Japan. In 1882, she became the first woman to receive the Doctor of Medicine degree and was listed as the first licensed and registered female physician practicing Western medicine in Japan.
